Transcription of a speech by Lee Hawkins on Charlottesville High schools given in 1943 [manuscript],f 940 Oct 19.

Hawkins reminisces about his school days, particularly the first session of Charlottesville High School, 1890, at the Midway School. He recalls the teachers, the courses, playing soccer, matches against the Miller School, a curve ball demonstration by professional baseball player and Charlottesville native Charlie Ferguson. Hawkins also mentions attendance at the University of Virginia, his start as a newspaperman, extra in a mob scene at the Levy Opera House, and the accidental killing of his deskmate by another pupil.
