James Ripley Osgood letters [manuscript], 1876, 1886.

In a letter, 1876 Nov 7, Osgood writes to "Peckham" that a "passage in your letter of October 31st contains these words: 'I believe that he (Julian Hawthorne) thinks that Osgood has injured him as much at Harper's of late as he formerly helped him.'" Osgood is at a loss to know what Hawthorne meant by this and wants an explanation "as this is outside of business and personal to myself." In a letter, [18]86 Mar 16, Osgood writes to "Parker" that J. W. H[arper?] is absent at Old Point Comfort. Mr. Seymour has sent in an advertisement. He thanks him for his congratulations on his 50th birthday, which he reciprocates. He will spend a week in Boston in April and will see Parker then. He has "taken my passage" in the "City of Rome" in April. The collection also contains a cashed check for $25.00 sent as payment to Oliver Wendell Holmes and endorsed by him.
