Address read before the Albemarle County Historical Society, April 1940, in which Boyd argues the importance of keeping up historical records amidst a "display of the forces of hate, intolerance, and provincial credulity." He believes that historians should adhere to the "high ideals of truth, tolerance, and intellectual honesty," and remain true to their purpose. Accompanied by a copy of Thomas Jefferson's letter to Ebenezer Hazard concerning the importance of historical documents.
