Papers of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors [manuscript], 1929-1940.

Assorted material, including a contract establishing "the room and basement...located between the central room and the eastern room of the Entrance Building at the University of Virginia" as a banking room for the Board of Visitors, signed by J.L. Newcomb; minutes from several meetings; and a resolution to expand an existing hospital building in 1938. Most interesting is a series of correspondence with and regarding E.I. Carruthers, Bursar of the University, and his decision to establish a 100-year legacy trust fund for one of his descendants at the University of Virginia. Included is a letter dated 1929 June 7, in which Carruthers addresses the future Bursar of the year 2030, to request that one of the scholarships established from his fund be given to one of his descendants. "Whoever you are," he writes, "you have my best wishes in the delightful task of aiding these wonderful youngsters to secure a start in the world."
