Letters and records relating to the identities of the members of the Knights of the Golden Horseshoe, Sir Alexander Spotswood's traveling party of Virginia gentlemen who undertook and expedition to the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1716. Their exploits were glorified in William Alexander Caruthers' novel "Knights of the Golden Horse-Shoe," first published 1841.
