Major topics in the papers including the construction and furnishing of Mary Munford dormitory; the women's alumni association; a lawsuit brought to force the admission of women as undergraduates; the Emily Clark Balch bequest, the conversion of Mary Washington to a liberal arts college, and women as special students. Of interest are a few letters concerning applications from black women for University housing, and a controversy over the publication of vulgar material in "The Virginia Reel." The collection also contains specifications for Randall Hall as a nursing dormitory by Stanislaw Makielski. The collection also contains notes used for "Women and the University" by Mary E. Whitney.
