Reum graduated from the University of Chicago in 1936 and married Walter J. Reum in 1939. She served as a delegate from the 2nd district to the 6th Illinois Constitutional Convention (1969-1970). Convention called to write a new constitution to replace the 1870 Illinois constitution, with Samuel Witwer chosen as president. A Constitution Study Commission had been formed in 1965 to determine the need for a convention. The convention organized nine committees to study issues and organization of state government in order to update the old constitution.
