Jefferson papers from the Proctor's Papers [manuscript], 1817-1916.

The collection contains a plat in the hand of Jefferson of the grounds of the University of Virginia as acquired in seven purchased, labelled A through G, showing acreage, metes and bounds, streams, roads and dates of purchase. The collection also contains 8 deeds for lands sold to the University, some of which correspond to the above map; all copied from Albemarle County deed books, ca. 1875. With these are 9 miscellaneous papers, chiefly notes by W. A. Lambeth, Francis P. Dunnington and others relative to boundary lines and rights of way, together with a letter, 1875, from Green Peyton as Proctor to R.G.H. Kean as Rector enclosing the above and tracing the history of the University's lands. The collection also contains 6 letters between Joseph Coolidge, Jr., and Thomas Jefferson pertaining to the purchase of a bell and clock for the University of Virginia.
