Papers of John Neal [manuscript] 1818-1873.

The collection contains the manuscript of "Specimens of American Poets," and a part of "The fireman's war." Recipients include Henry C. Carey, Isabella James, Cornelius Mathews, Charles F. Moyer, John K. Porter, Elizabeth Oakes Smith, Isaac T. Smith, Arthur F. Stetson, Charles K. Tuckerman, and Ticknor & Fields. The collection also contains an etching of Neal, two publishers agreements with West, Richardson & Lord pertaining to "Otho," and a certificate for five shares in the Maine Quarrying Association.
