Papers of Bayard Taylor [manuscript], 1847-1878.

The collection contains a bound manuscript of "Poems of the Orient"; a bound manuscript of "The picture of St. John"; a bound manuscript of "The two herdboys"; a notebook containing German exercises and translations; and manuscripts of "An impossible story," the poem "The Village Stork'" and an unidentified poem. Correspondents include M. W. Day, Frederick Haase, Henry W. Longfellow, Henry Martyn, James Ripley Osgood, George Palmer Putnam, O. J. Victor, and John Ferguson Weir. The collection also contains engravings of Taylor and newspaper clippings contain obituaries and a description of his estate "Cedarcroft."

James R. Osgood was a native of Maine who went to work for the publishing house of Ticknor and Fields. He eventually founded the subsidiary group James R.
