Additional papers of the Bruce family of Berry Hill [manuscript] 1817-1898.

Consisting of a list of debts owed James Coles Bruce as of 1 May 1846, and fifteen manuscript volumes as follows: record of tobacco shipments and prices, 1817-1825, cash accounts of James C. Bruce, 1843-1859, twelve account books of his Meadsville Mills, 1841-1854, and two ledgers of Bruce family financial accounts, apparently in the settlement of the estate of James C. Bruce by Alexander Bruce, 1865-1898. In these two ledgers are entries for Eliza W., Rosa, Thomas, Walter C. and William B. Bruce, as well as for Lancaster & Co., R.H. Maury & Co., State Bank of Virginia, and others. Accounts of Berry Hill run from 1865-1879. Among the few entries after 1880 is one for [South?] "Boston lots sold and improved and given," 1885-1887.

William Webb Wilkins (d. 1859?), James Coles Bruce (1806-1865), and James Alexander Seddon (1815-1880) were partners in the ownership of sugar and cotton plantations, a saw mill, and a cooper's shop in Saint James Parish and Carroll Parish, Louisiana.
