Maury Family correspondence [manuscript] 1802-1872.

Correspendence of various members of the Maury family including Ann, Catherine, Francis F., James S., John P., Matthew F., Matthew W., Reuben, Rutson, and Thomas W. Maury. Other notable names appearing are Thomas Jefferson (in a list of subscribers to militia fund, Sept. 14, 1812, photostat), Thomas Mann Randolph, Jr., and Baron Richard Lyons writing on behalf of Matthew F. Maury, detained in England in 1861. Content is almost entirely personal. Of interest are a few letters discussing the War of 1812, including a British raid on Tappahannock. Collection also contains a slave bill of sale, a list of subscribers to buy a house and lot for the Rev. N. H. Cobbs.

Thomas Mann Randolph was born 1 October 1768 at Tuckahoe in Henrico County, Virginia, to Thomas Mann Randolph (1740-1793) and Anne Cary Randolph (1745-1789). Educated by private tutors until age 16, Randolph studied at the University of Edinburg from 1785 to 1788.
