Papers of the Bristol Milling and Packing Company and the Merchants Exchange Bank [manuscript] 1883 (1892-1904) 1924.

The papers consist chiefly of business correspondence of President T.F. Wood and his sons, M. William Wood and J. Frank Wood. Topics include delinquent accounts, customer complaints, business with wholesalers and disposition of the mill's machinery after Wood's death. In addition there are accounts, invoices and receipts, purchase orders, commodity reports, promissory notes, daily and monthly cash accounts, and legal instruments for the firm and bank. The papers also include correspondence regarding the Southwest Virginia Institute; an effort to find Republican opposition for Campbell Slemp, 1905-06; real estate holdings; the settlement of Wood's estate; and the construction of a commercial building in Bristol. There are site plans for the Woodlawn addition, a Bristol housing development, and for the Smith and Wilson Brickyard. A small group of papers concerns the Greenville (Tenn.) Laundry Company, 1923-24.
