Mentions Martha, Anne Cary Randolph, and Thomas Mann Randolph, Jr. 1791 August 21: Date for return to Monticello. Purchase of horse for T. J. by Thomas Mann Randolph, Jr. Reference to James Madison. 1798 April 11: Discussion of the XYZ Affair; Charles Talleyrand. 1798 May 6: XYZ Affair. Possibility of war. Cannot visit Eppington. Hopes John Wayles Eppes and Maria can go to Monticello. 1800 February 12: Death of Maria's child. Failure of the mails. Plans to visit her on the way to Monticello. Inquiries about her health. References to Thomas Mann Randolph, Jr., and John Wayles Eppes. 1801 October 26: Inquiries about Maria's health and the little boy's. Recommends Mrs. Suddarth as a nurse. Hopes they will stay at Monticello. 1802 March 29: Thomas Mann Randolph, Jr. has decided to purchase land in Georgia rather than in Mississippi.
