17[86] November 19: Jefferson to Cosway. Cramp in hand prevents a long letter. He has cleared up her misunderstanding with Madame de Corny. Greetings to her husband. 1786 November 29: Jefferson to Cosway. His letters too full of pure affection to go by the public post. Hopes to see her again. Must trust this to the post-office, but will disguise his seal and superscription. 1786 December 24: Jefferson to Cosway. Reason she has not received his letters. Wishes he were with her. Hopes she is coming to Paris. Possibility of her drawing Natural Bridge and the Peaks of Otter. Thanks for a gift of songs she has composed. 1787 July 1: Jefferson to Cosway. Description of trip to Italy, mentioning Turin, Milan, Genoa, Nice, Col de Tende, Chateau de Saorgis. Wishes she would come to Paris. 1787 July 9: Cosway to Jefferson. He does not deserve a long letter. Discusses his trip through Italy, mentioning Turin, Genoa, Milan. She has finally met Madame de Corny. Letters and a parcel for the Duchess of Kingston. [1788] January [14]: Jefferson to Cosway. Pain of parting. Illness of Madame de Corny. Arrival of Mrs. Church. Wishes she had fewer friends and servants so he might have more time alone with her. 1788 April 24: Jefferson to Cosway. Reasons he has not written. J. neglects her. 1788 July 27: Jefferson to Cosway. Public triumph of her engraving of the "Hours." Request for a design for his visiting cards. 1788 July 30: Jefferson to Cosway. "Cease to chide me . . . I am incapable of forgetting or neglecting you." 1788 August 19: Cosway to Jefferson. Thanks for his compliments for her She will work on his visiting card when she can. Jefferson's return to America. Plans trip to Italy. She now has a picture of T. J. Mentions Angelica Church, John Trumbull, Richard Cosway. 1788 September 26: Jefferson to Cosway. Design for his visiting card. Jefferson goes to America; she to Italy. Suggests she go by way of Col de Tende and see the castle of Saorgio. Would prefer her to come to U. S. with Mrs. Church and John Trumbull, to sketch Natural Bridge and Niagara Falls. 1789 January 14: Jefferson to Cosway. Comments on severe winter. News of Princess Lubomirski, M. D'Hancarville, Mrs. Church. Mr. Trumbull, and Mr. Short. Mme. de Brehan disappointed with America's lack of simplicity. [1789] February 6: Cosway to Jefferson. Mrs. Church's trip to America. Requests true account of French Revolution since English neswspapers are all biased. Hopes he has seen Mrs. Cowley. 1789 May 21: Jefferson to Cosway. Leaves for America for six months. France a scene of tumult. Wishes she would join Mrs. Church in America. Discourse on the nature of their friendship. 1789 July 25: Jefferson to Cosway. Violence in the French Revolution. Introduces Gouverneur Morris. [1789] August 9: Cosway to Jefferson. Acknowledges letter sent by Gouverneur Morris. Sends note by John Trumbull. [1789] August 19: Cosway to Jefferson. Conspiracy against George III. Finds Mr. Morris very enjoyable. Asks about affairs in France. Introduces her brother. Mentions Mr. Trumbull. 1789 September 11: Jefferson to Cosway. Reasons why he did not see more of her brother. Departure for America. 1789 October 14: Jefferson to Cosway. Leaves soon for America. Hopes to see her in Paris in April if matters are "tranquilized".
