Statement to C. Francis Cocke of Roanoke, regarding his years of service at the University of Virginia [manuscript] 1909 Feb. 15. 1909.

The letter was dictated by "Uncle" Henry Martin to Cocke on 1909 Feb. 15. Martin came to the University in 1848 and had a letter of character from his "master, Dr. Carr." Dr. Carr purchased Martin, his mother and twin brother from the estate of Thomas Jefferson. Martin has served nine Proctors and twenty-eight professors. There is also a letter from Cocke to Richard R. Fletcher, the editor of the Alumni news, 17 Aug. 1951, transmitting a photostat of the letter for publication.
