Papers of the Jefferson Society [manuscript] 1892-1893.

The collection contains manuscripts and clippings concerning the contest for the presidency of the Jefferson Society between Murray M. McGuire and Mallory K. Cannon. The contest led to fist fight in the old gymnasium at the south end of the East Range between McGuire supporter James P. C. Southall and Cannon supporter A. C. "Kit" Carson. The contest was finally submitted to an arbitration committee of Professor Noah K. Davis and Dr. Paul B. Barringer who decided in favor of McGuire.
