Page and Nelson family papers [manuscript], 1694-1912.

The collection consists mainly of personal family correspondence, bills and receipts and some legal papers dealing with railroad interests in the 1870s and the financial difficulties of a Richard Price. There are also [copies?] of the wills of Johh Mann (1694) and Thomas Nelson (1708); and a genealogical chart. Of interest is a letter, 1809 July 9, Thomas Nelson to Francis Page asking him to lookout for his runaway slave, Bristol; and a receipt , 1811 October 20, signed by Sarah Chisholm for payment for midwifery services for a slave of Francis Page. Correspondents include Edmund Berkeley and William Cabell Rives.

William Cabell Rives was the son of Robert and Margaret Jordan (Cabell) Rives. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College and at the College of William and Mary where he graduated in 1809. He studied law and politics under Thomas Jefferson. Rives served in the War of 1812 and in the Virginia House of Delegates. After his marriage, he lived at "Castle Hill," Albemarle County, Va.
