Additional Rives family papers [manuscript] 1781-1868.

Chiefly concerning Robert Rives, Jr, his wife Elizabeth Pannill Rives, daughter Cornelia (who 1st married Charles Carter Harrison Wilborn), his brother William Cabell Rives, and Alexander Rives. The correspondence is mostly about family affairs with references to farm economics, elections, travel, and social events. Included are a brief inventory of Rives' estate, his law license and some bills and receipts.

William Cabell Rives was the son of Robert and Margaret Jordan (Cabell) Rives. He was educated at Hampden-Sydney College and at the College of William and Mary where he graduated in 1809. He studied law and politics under Thomas Jefferson. Rives served in the War of 1812 and in the Virginia House of Delegates. After his marriage, he lived at "Castle Hill," Albemarle County, Va.
