Papers of Sir Graham Eden Hamond [manuscript] 1803-1825.

A letterbook, 1803-06, from his command of the H.M.S. Lively and H.M.S. Plantagenet contains copies of correspondence between various senior officers, the naval office, the transport office and Hamond concerning action in the Mediterranean theater particularly the invasion of Naples. The outfitting of ships and the supply and transportation of prisoners are of major concern. The orderbook, 1805-06, contains 18th century precedent-setting orders pertaining to courts-martial, including the full minutes of a 1753 court martial over the loss of the H.M.S. Assurance. There is also an 1805 report of the French strength at Cadiz and a series of letters regarding troop transport and Mediterranean action. The orderbook, 1808-25, from Hamond's command of the H.M.S. Victorious, 1808-09, and the H.M.S. Rivoli, 1813-14, during the Napoleonic Wars, and the H.M.S. Wellesley, and H.M.S. Spartiate, 1824-35, which cruised to Rio de Janiero contains orders in council and orders from the office of the Lord high Admiral directed to all naval captains plus orders concerning his ship given directly to Hamond. An 1808 report on naval uniforms is included. The final orderbook, n.d., contains Hamond's orders to officers on his ship regarding the performance of their regular duties. Correspondents include Cuthbert Collingwood, William Cornwallis, James Henry Craig, Adam Duncan, George Keith Elphinstone, Ld. Keith, John Knight, William Marsden, John Orde, and Frank Sotheron.
