Papers of the Burwell family [manuscript] ca. 1815-1896.

The reminiscences of Kate Burwell Bowyer contain anecdotes of the Civil War and recollection of a trip to New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. with her father and sister, ca. 1854, which included visits to mediums. An incomplete copy of the memoirs of William Armisted Burwell includes his experiences as a Virginia State delegate, U.S. Congressman, and personal secretary to President Jefferson. The collection also contains an 1895 scrapbook of Civil War reminiscences and a petition to the General Assembly against changing the name of liberty, Va., to Bedford.
