Letters, 1861-66, of Benjamin H. Green, Chief Engineer of Gen. Ewell's Corps, and John W. Green who served on Gen. W.J. Hardee's staff, which describe their war experiences. B.H. Green also discusses conditions as a prisoner of war at Camp Chase, nr. Columbus, Ohio, 1864 Sept.-1865 Feb. [ca. 50 items. chiefly transcripts (typewritten)]. Letters, 1859-62, Emmie E. Holmes, Charleston, to Lizzie Green. These long letters describe Charleston society, preparations for secession and war, the firing on the Star of the West, the fall of Fort Sumter, rumors of slave revolts, effects of the blockade, the capture of the Sea Islands, etc. [ca. 15 items. transcripts (typewritten)]. In addition, there are newsclippings regarding B. H. Green's career as surveyor general of Montana in the 1880-s, incl. letters from John Charles Fremont & Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar and a sketch of Charles William Dabney with data on the Dabney family.
