Correspondence, critical essays, and other papers concerning Faulkner's literary pursuits and his acceptance of a lectureship at the University of Virginia. The correspondence is chiefly with his literary agents and publishers about his early works. Includes MSS. of his short stories "Idyll in the desert", "A portrait of Elmer", and "There was a queen"; of his poems "Mississippi hills: my eptiaph", and "Shall I recall this tree when I am old"; of "Twilight" (1st p. of "The sound and the fury"); of his address before the Southern Historical Society 1955 Nov. 10; and of several critical and bibliographical articles by Joseph Medard CarrieĢre, Dayton Kohler, and Linton R. Massey.
