Letters of Richard Doddridge Blackmore to Showell Rogers and Mrs. Showell Rogers [manuscript] 1891-1899.

Most of the letters comment on Blackmore's last two books, Fringilla and Dariel. There are many unfavorable observations on the current state of English literature, and reflections that changing tastes have made his own work unpopular. He offers criticism of Rogers's verse, thanks him for favorable reviews, and mentions that the mss. of Lorna Doone has probably been stolen. Many of the letters discuss his vineyard and fruit trees. The last letters mention his failing health and the final one is anote of sympathy to Mrs. Rogers on her husband's unexpected death. The collection also contanis clippings and a prospectus for Fringilla.
