The earlier volume was also used as a commonplace book. Both contain family news and personal reflections. Copybook, 1864-1880, is filled with sentimental poetry, much of it on the Confederacy [1 vol. ms. 20 cm. 3/4 leather bound]--Recipe book, 1841, contains recipes for food, dyes and soap [1 vol. ms 1/2 leather bound 20 cm.]--The collection also contains many loose items found in the books including recipes, poems, and a small sketch of a cannon mired in mud [84 items ms. & print].
