Photographs and a letter from Robert Tallant [manuscript] 1925-50.

The collection consists chiefly of negative photographs of people and places in Albemarle, Shenandoah, and Warren Counties, Virginia. People include Harrison Goolsby, Molly Pugh, Grover Cleveland Robinson, John H. Rogers and Harding Walker. Places include Fishers Hill, Israel's Gap (including a slave cabin), North Gardn (James Kidd store), and Warren County (country store). The collection also contains a letter from Robert Tallant, 1950 September 26, thanking Rogers for a woodcut and commenting on his recent activities.

Author. Born in New Orleans, April 20, 1909. Educated in local public schools. Worked as an advertising copywriter, bank teller, and clerk before "drifting" into writing. His friendship with Lyle Saxon led to a position as editor on the Louisiana Writers' Project of the WPA. In this position he completed the writing of Gumbo Ya Ya, the Project's compilation of Louisiana folklore.
