Papers of the Pollard family of Lynchburg, Va. [manuscript] 1852-1909.

The papers concern the correspondence of Richard Pollard, his wife Elizabeth Saunders Dudley Pollard, their daughter Bettie Pollard Glass, and her husband John Sanford Glass. Their letters to friends and relatives are devoted almost exclusively to news of family, friends, and relatives. Many are to William Dudley who immigrated to Washington territory. Others concern Mrs. Glass's 1903 recuperation from a serious illness in Ashville, N.C. Of interest is a letter describing life in Cuba, 1898-99. There is also correspondence of Pollard's brother Edward Alfred Pollard. Most of it discusses his literary work but there are a few letters from Jasper Johnson, secretary of the National Liberal Republicans on the presidential candidacy of Horace Greeley, 1872. Several letters in 1886 trace the efforts of an attorney to located the heirs of Edward A. Pollard, Jr. after his mysterious disappearance and presumed death. The collection also contains a few legal and financial papers, clippings, school essays and invitations.
