Papers of Edward Jones Willis [manuscript] 1895-1964.

The collection contains correspondence relating to Willis' work as an engineer and as chairman of the Virginia Board of Mechanical Survey, the Willis navigation instrument, the Willis planimeter, other inventions and their manufacture and sale, engineering, and navigation. The collection also contains a scrapbook of clippings compiled by Edward J. Willis, 1895, and printed items. Names represented include his sons, Francis Thomas Willis and Edward Fauntleroy Willis, Homer Lenoir Ferguson, George Washington Littlehales, Philip Van Horn Weems, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the United States Naval Institute, and the United States Navy.
