The collection contains autograph drafts and corrected typescripts of The cat and the king, The country cousin, The dark lady, Henry Adams, The house of the prophet, Persons of consequence, and The unseen Versailles. With these are annotated copies of letters, 1942-45, to his mother written during World War II naval service in Panama, training in Florida, aboard the U.S.S. Moonstone, and on LSTs in England and the Pacific. In his letters he discusses his reading, news of family and friends, naval duties, and activities.
