Miscellaneous papers of the Gilmer family [manuscript], 1914-1978.

The collection contains an invoice for paint and linseed oil from the Charlottesville Hardware Company, 1920 January 31; a list of subjects and loaners in a Bayly Museum exhibit of early views of Albemarle County, Va., ante 1947; letters from Mary Ridgeway Gilmer to Ruth Gilmer, 1950 December 11 and 1963 September 6 and 10, sending thanks for a pleasant visit , conveying family news, and listing Gilmer antiques and art in her possession; a routine letter from Harry F. Byrd, Jr., thanking George Gilmer for his support, 1976 June 8; and letters from Julius Barclay and David Lawall, 1976 and 1978, thanking the Gilmers and Betsy Gilmer Tremain for their suport ot the University of Virginia Library and Art Museum. The collection also contains correspondence, 1914-1928, between Frank and George Gilmer and U.S. Senator Thomas S. Martin concerning patronage and routine requests. There is also some correspondence with Senator Claude Swanson regarding his re-election campaign in 1921 and radio reception; and with Carter Glass on radio reception.
