Report of the Faculty Committee for General Purposes to the Board of Visitors, [manuscript] 1826 Sep 9.

The committee makes nine recommendations to the Board of Visitors: 1. to limit the number of students allowed to live in rooms on the Lawn. 2. to make the office of Proctor answerable to the Faculty except for the expenditure of money. 3. to charge the Proctor with providing an adequate supply of water for the University, previous attempts having failed. 4. to obtain a fire-engine and hose for the University. 5. to direct the Proctor to light the University, acquire fuel for the public and lecture rooms, plant trees, and complete work on the as-yet-unfinished buildings; in addition, the faculty members who have paid for Venetian blinds from their own funds should be reimbursed by the University. 6. that the Board replace the current book dealer (Cummings & Hilliard) with a firm in New York. 7.to make provision for acquiring new books for the library. 8. to obtain teachers of music and drawing, and 9. to hire "two apt, will-disposed lads" to maintain the philosophical and chemical apparatus.
