Letter, 1945 Sept. 27, New York, to "Mr. Higgins." Maugham refuses to offer comments on a book and notes that he finds Thomas Hardy's "Return of the Native" "intolerable" and "abominable." With the letter is a copy of Hamlin's article "The case of psychiatry and medicine", 1971.
