Circular letters to the Board of Visitors [manuscript], 1825 May 13.

Two circular letters sent to all members of the Board of Visitors discuss the appointment of a law professor. In a letter 1825 May 13, Jefferson discusses the qualifications of Judge W. A. G. Dade after Francis W. Gilmer refused the position. In a letter 1825 August 4 Jefferson reports that Dade, Henry St. George Tucker, P. P. Barbour, and Dabney Carr have all declined the chair. Gilmer is now in improved health and has agreed to accept the position. Mentions accounts for spending $50,000 for the library and apparatus. Archibald Stuart, Howe Peyton, John H. Cocke, John P. Emmet Rufus King and the firm of Cummings & Hilliard are also mentioned.
