The collection contains department and personal communications with historians, university colleagues, students, friends and academic organizations; academic, lecture and professional organization records associated with Peterson's time at Harvard, Brandeis and the University of Virginia; and notes, manuscripts and correspondence concerning Peterson's books and articles, particularly "The great triumvirate," and "Thomas Jefferson and the new nation." The collection also contains photographs; clippings; pamphlets; reprints; unpublished writings; and background material.
