Notebook of medical studies [manuscript], 1832-1834.

Student notebook, 1832-1834, includes notes and examination questions on the lectures from the materia medica class of John Patten Emmet for the fall session of 1832, and from Dr. Jackson's class in the spring of 1833; also includes recipes for pills, syrups, and other remedies in the back; also at the end is a reading list and a poem written by T. Pringle while at the Cape of Good Hope in 1824, copied in 1834; pages 143-196 and 217-291 are blank. Dr. Emmet's lectures are numbered: I, Pharmacy; II, Specific Gravity; III Mechanical operation of Pharmacy; IV, Vegetable preparation/expressed juices; V, Syrups; VI, Classifications of Medicine; VII, Narcotics; VIII, Emetrics; IX, Emmengogues; X, Diuretics & diaphoretics; XI, Expectorants. Dr. Jackson's course includes a visit to an almhouse, with notes and observations.
