The collection contains a letter, 1888 February 26, to Hjalmar Hjorth Boyesen, expressing Harper's pleasure at rereading a notice of Boyesen's "Washington address" and says President Barnard would like to see it; and a letter, n.y. July 6, to Rufus Wilmot Griswold, requesting Griswold to furnish a "few examples of moral worth and greatness as exhibited by American females."

Rufus Wilmot Griswold (February 13, 1815 – August 27, 1857) was an American anthologist, editor, poet, and critic. Born in Vermont, Griswold left home when he was 15 years old.
