The collection contains articles of ordination, 10 March 1754, bearing the seal of the bishop of London, appointing William Fanning deacon in the Church of England; and two letters, 16 March 1778, from Edmund Fanning to Hannah and John Wickham, Southhold, Long Island, N.Y., his sister and brother-in-law, respectively, offering to take their son, John Wickham, into his care until Wickham should reach maturity. In addition there is a commission, 25 December 1782, signed by Thomas Townshend, appointing John Wickham ensign in Edmund Fanning's regiment of foot; and two letters, 1810, from Edward Augustus, Duke of Kent, regarding a promotion for Fanning's son.
