Papers of Joseph Rodman Drake [manuscript], 1815-1834.

In the collection are eight manuscripts containing Drake poems including "The American Flag" and "The Unpublished Poems of Joseph Rodman Drake" with seventeen of his poems. There are also three poems by Fitz-Greene Halleck and an essay by Drake. There is only one letter by Drake, written to his stepfather and announcing the passing of his medical exams and discussing job opportunities. A letter from his stepfather hopes for his recovery. There are two letters of sympathy at his death from his sister to his wife. A letter from William Samuel Johnson to Elizabeth Wadsworth describes the bound volume of a fair copy of "The Culprit Fay" which is also included in the collection.
