Papers compiled by Raymond Gorges for a book on the Gorges family [manuscript], 1616-1940 (bulk 1900-1940).

The collection contains histories of the Gorges and related families beginning in 1066, individual biographies, copies of family correspondence, historical background material, postcards of English and Irish country scenes and family coats-of-arms, as well as Gorges's personal genealogical data and notes and correspondence re his research. Pertinent legal documents and copies particularly regarding the Kilmoon, Kilbrew and Webster estates, County Meath, Ireland, include indentures, marriage settlements, legal cases, deeds, bonds, acts, stocks, and wills. There are also some charts and correspondence, 1869-1924, of the Rev. Frederick Brown on the family, a copy of his manuscript on the Gorges family history, and a copy of the diary of Mrs. Elizabeth Treke. Miscellaneous items in the collection include glass plate negatives of an unidentified building; six postcards from Normandy; a postmarked envelope imprinted "Commune de Gorges"; a wax impression of the Kilbrew seal; a plaster cast of the seal of Sir Tibbert Gorges taken from a document in the Bibliothè€que Nationale; a miniature copy of an unidentifed coat of arms; a list of the Lords of the Manor of Wraxall; a blueprint map of Lebanon, Russell County, Va., 1921 November 12, showing "concrete sidewalks, fences, telephone and electric light poles. Also cross section" at a scale of 1" =100'; and a Dennison's salesman's sample box of office accessories.
