Papers of Edward Drewry Jervey [manuscript], 1968-1972.

The collection consists of scrapbooks compiled by Jervey and transcripts from the civil action suit for academic freedom in the U.S. District Court for Western Virginia. Jervey sued for damages when denied a raise and summer employment at Radford College after he wrote a letter to the editor of Redbook Magazine commenting on an article on pre-marital sex. The National Educational Association retained Philip J. Hirschkop in the case which was settled out of court after the first trial ended with a hung jury. The scrapbooks contain newsclippings, letters of support from faculty and students, memoranda, depositions, and articles pertinent to the case.
