Papers of William Lane [manuscript], 1776-1865.

The papers include correspondence and receipts, 1776-1777, regarding the medical care, board of, and supplies for troops under the command of William Lane while stationed in Georgia, including the rental of horses; and a memorandum, ca. 1776, of expenses relating to raising and marching Lane's troops from Virginia to Georgia. The papers also include two claims, 1786, from residents of King and Queen County, Va., for the provisioning of a gun and a steer, respectively, to the Virginia Militia; and two summons, 1809 and 1813, to appear before the justice of the peace in Fairfax County, Va., for the settlement of debts. The papers also contain an indenture, 1784 August 3, between Richard Thomas and Humphrey Temple of King and Queen County for lots in the town of Walkerton, and a commission, 1797 December 22, to examine Mrs. Jane Tunstall regarding her consent to a land sale. The papers also include a memorandum, ca. 1865?, by Col. Angus William McDonald, C.S.A.. listing New York guards who were kind to him during his imprisonment at the Atheneum Prison, Wheeling, W. Va.
