W. F. Winston papers [manuscript], 1839-1851.

Papers include a letter, [1839] Mar. 23, from A. S. [Brown?] to Charles G. Dickinson describing the horsewhipping of Gessner Harrison by two University of Virginia students, [Walter L.] Binford and [Thomas B.] Russell, and the subsequent flight of Binford and Russell, their capture by fellow students and the shooting of Russell. Papers also include a contemporary copy, 1847, of the will of William S. Winston, Louisa County, Va.; Papers also contain a letter, 8 May 1851, from J. W. Lugenbeel of the American Colonization Society to W. F. Winston, describing the costs involved and the means of sending manumitted slaves to Liberia (negative photostat). Papers also contain Bible records of the Dickinson family of Goochland County, Va., tracing descendents of Charles G. and Sally Ann Winston Dickinson (negative photostats).
