Papers of James Wood and the Wood family [manuscript] 1736-1892.

The collection contains bills, receipts and promissory notes of James Wood, chiefly with Frederick County, Va. merchants; and court charges, receipts and other papers from Wood's service as clerk of the Frederick County Court, 1743-1759. Also included are papers, 1760-1761, from Wood's successor, Archibald Wager. With these are papers from the estate settlement of Dr. Daniel Hart and from the estate of Godfrey Miller which consists chiefly of bills and receipts, accounts, exercise books, inventories, some personal correspondence, a commonplace book and descriptions of some 130 plants. Lyman Copeland Draper is a correspondent and the names of Thomas Nelson, George Mason and Edmund Pendleton appear among the court records.
