The collection contains items dealing with Albemarle County history collected by Society member Atcheson L.Hench, including a judge's opinion on an estate case; a letter from the Peninsula campaign; William Cabell Rives' reply to Albemarle citizens addressing him regarding the convention of 1861; the February 28, 1837 issue of the Washington Globe which contains a letter from Andrew Jackson to the citizens of Albemarle. Also included are a 1943 rabies broadside; various reprints and clippings; two papers presented to the Society by Haidee Watson Perkins Michie entitled "The Piedmont Hospital" and "The Park St. School"; an article by A. L. Hench entitled "The Name Albemarle Pippin"; a speech by Hench on the first decade of the ACHS with a preliminary sketch about the history of "Clover Fields" compiled by Mary Rawlings, and a 1940 Confederate memorial address by Walter Alexander Montgomery. Items pertaining to the Society include a summary, 1958, of the Society's altercation with Michie Tavern over the tavern's authenticity; a 1966 map of old Charlottesville published by the Society. Among the correspondents are Harry Clemons, Robert Douthat Meade, and John Cook Wyllie.
