Correspondence of family members conveys news of relatives and friends and discusses life in Roanoke, Va., 1899-1940, particularly the activities of the Second Presbyterian Church, its Sunday School and missions. Other topics of interest include life in San Diego, Calif., in 1903, and a divorce and custody case with an anecdote re Congressman Clifton A. Woodrum, 1923. Civil War letters of two Tate brothers mention hardships of camp life, troop movements, several skirmishes and a snowball fight involving several Confederate brigades in April, 1864. Among a small group of financial and legal papers are statements from the Cedar Run mines, a copy of the will of William Tate Graham, founder of the Crippled Children's Hospital, Richmond, Va., and a household inventory from the estate of Nannie Montgomery Tate Graham. Some genealogical notes complete the collection.
