Papers of James Adam Bear [manuscript], 1930-1938.

The collection contains correspondence, 1930-1932, of Bear as chairman of the General Assembly Auditing Committee, and correspondence, speeches, and newspapers clippings, 1936-1938, pertaining to James H. Price's gubernatorial campaign and first year as governor. Topics include finances of the athletic departments at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Virginia Military Institute, and the College of William and Mary; the installation of a new uniform county accounting system; and Price's campaign particularly his platform, running mates, press statements, and opposition. With the correspondence is a speech delivered by Price and some newsclippings. Correspondents include Everett R. Combs, Robert W. Daniel, Martin A. Hutchinson, Vivian L. Page, and James H. Price.
