The collection consists chiefly of research files for chapters in Dabney's book "Virginia Commonwealth University: A Sesquicentennial History." With these are award and citation certificates; a pen and ink sketch of Dabney by Jeff McNelly; birthday letters from his aunt and mother, 1945-1955; newsclippings re Dabney; an article on Dabney by Alfred Toombs and a tribute by James J. Kilpatrick. There are also photographs; printed items including interviews, articles, or talks on race relations, education in Virginia, and reporters and the election of 1988; and invitations, programs, and miscellany including some smashed window glass from Hitler's villa at Berchtesgaden. Of interest is a memorandum, 1989 September 28, concerning the Richmond newspapers, interposition, massive resistance, and the Prince Edward County school closings.
