Papers of John C. Metcalf [manuscript], 1904-1950.

The collection contains manuscripts for Metcalf's scholarly articles and his book "The stream of English biography." The majority of articles are about English and American literature or higher education in the United States. In addition there are letters from his wife Edmonia Carrington Lancaster Metcalf just prior to their marriage; correspondence with Martin Hoyt and Co., Publishers re his revision of "The library of southern literature"; some miscellaneous professional correspondence including letters from Philip Alexander Bruce and Arthur Kyle Davis; some miscellaneous banking records; and a few items from his wife's estate including an engraved silver bowl presented to Metcalf by the Business Men's Bible Class of the Second Baptist Church, 1917.
