Include 35 letters, 1856-1861, Thomas Frederick Nelson to his parents Robert Carter Burwell Nelson and Susan Price Nelson about life at the school run by his great aunts at their Clarke Co., Va. home, "Rosney." He mentions his activities, studies, and family news. Topics include describing the use of leeches, the organization of a military company, and the outbreak of the Civil War. A few Civil War letters mention sickness in camp, enemy fear of Stonewall Jackson, and Jackson's standards of cleanliness. The collection also contains the 1855 will of John M. Price of Fincastle, Va., mentioning slaves, some genealogical material, and an 1840 portrait of Susan Price Nelson.
