Keeping the faith, a history of First Baptist Church, 1863-1980, in light of its times [manuscript], 1981.

An account of the African American Baptist church, West Main and Seventh Streets, Charlottesville, Va., reviews the history of the Baptist movement in the United States and of the black experience in Virginia before discussing the founding of the church and its growth. Appendices contain a copy of the deed, 1868, a list of deacons and other officers, and excerpts from forewards to the annual yearbooks by pastor Benjamin F. Bunn.

Scholar and minister Richard McKinney was born on August 8, 1906, in Live Oak, Florida. McKinney graduated as valedictorian of his high school class at Morehouse Academy in 1927, and went on to attend Morehouse College. In 1931, McKinney received his A.B. degree in religion and philosophy; from there, he attended Andover Newton Theological School, where he earned his B.D. degree in 1934 and his S.T.M degree in 1937 in philosophy of religion.
